Help needed in identifying rear brake setup

Post by Geo8178 »

Hi all,

I am currently installing a 302 V8 in a Ford Capri. Engine, Gearbox is all fitted the problem I have is identifying the rear brake set up to enable me to purchase a rear brake shoe hardware kit.

I was told that the rear axle was from a 1969 Ford Fairlane, however no one on the Fairlane or American Muscle car forums can identify it.

I had spoken to a UK based company who believe that the shoes may be a Girling make and think the axle is from possibly a LandRover or 1950's Ford.

There is no parking brake lever attached to the rear shoes - instead a lever pivots through the backing plate and that operates the shoes when parking brake is applied.

If anyone has seen this type of setup and can identify it I would be really grateful as it's hampering production at present.
