help need a Brake Master Cylinder

Post by Colin.Watling »

Hi im new, just got a '77 1.6 gl nothing special but solid!!

I believe the master cylinder has gone i push the brake pedal little resitance but no or very minor braking then it moves an extra inch all of a sudden resulting in the fronts locking up with nothing on the rear!

I know the capper runs a dual circuit with the rears coming in first does this mean there is a problem with the part of the master cylinder that controls the rear?

I have tried to get a new one or a repair kit without much luck does a matser cylinder from any other fords fit? (1.6 Pinto)

Or am i going in the complete wrong direction.

P.S new discs callipers and pads on the front and i have had the rear drums apart all is fine! and handbrake works ace!

any help greatly appreciated!!

Cheers

Colin

Does sound like the master cylinder.

Your servo should be the one with M10 studs (Lucas Girling)

Would think it's a 20mm cylinder so just get hold of any Capri cylinder -
1.6 - 2.0 - 3.0 they will be 20 or 22 so will work fine.

Later 3.0 and 2.8 are ATE so will not fit the servo.
