Front ride height

Hi to all, first post,

I have a MkIII 2.0 Ghia which sits unevenly on the front. Specifically it sits slightly higher front left and I also have a metallic knock from there when I go over a bump

I can see that the spring is not broken, it feels like the shock absorber is not working at all. Would a broken shock absorber affect the ride height??

On the road it feels like there is no damping action at all from the front left.

Any help appreciated.
