Hi Guys
I've got a Mk2 capri 1.6 which and I want to fit a 2.9 cosworth BOA engine into, I got the engine along with the loom ecu ect and also a 2.8 capri tank with fuel pump. I've picked up a type 9 gearbox out of a 2.8 sierra Xr4i along with its flywheel (on a bit of a budget as have several other projects on the go ) Is there any reason why I can't fit this engine on to my 1.6 crossmember without the power steering to get me going? (would prob change to 2.8 xmember and power steering at a later date) Can fabricate custom engine mounts if required. Also what clutch would be best used with the type 9 box and 2.8 flywheel, does using a cosworth clutch avoid having to alter the release arm?
Any tips much appreciated
Cheers
2.9 Cossy in to a 1.6 mk2 Capri

Manual steering is possible but un-wise.
The way to do it is to use the power steering cross member and weld on the manual rack fixings.
You can then use 2.8 engine mounts without any further changes.
Using the type 9 is also a bad idea. Regardless of other oppinion, the 24V does not
run to it's full potential without a speed sensor.
You can use a cable mounted sender to get over this but the 24V will destroy
the type 9 very quickly.
The clutch that works best is Escort Cosworth

Just some of what we do
Hi there
Thanks for the reply, think I did read somewhere about the 2.8 xmember moving the engine several inches backwards or forwards. Manual steering plus v6 plus an X pack then add a stylish 10 inch steering wheel could be a bit hard to steer
Need to find a 2.8 xmember, rack and mounts, anyone got any for sale?

Manual or power - the engine stays in the factory position - no different.greenboy Posted: Fri Jan 16, 2009 10:26 pm Post subject:

So no it does not move at all.
look up the bargains page www.caprisport.com
There is a rack and cross member for sale cheap. Think there is a pair of 2.8 engine mounts all blasted and painted too.
There is a good engine and box for sale too if you ask nicely.
