Numberplates

Post by Zackspeed280 »

Interesting discussion with my friendly MOT man recently as I'm about to put my 93 Range Rover through prior to sale (fantastic tow car if anyone is interested?).

Apparently the rules on numberplates changed on 1 Oct this year and your MOT man will fail your car if the numberplates have any stickers on them, logos that aren't the EU, GB or Scotish flags or Welsh Lion. Or is there is a background logo - so not just non standard spacing anymore and for really new cars even the SAE number needs to be visible and postcode or reference to where the plates were made. (one area I don't agree in as I don't advertise for other people on my cars!).

So, just be aware that you might go around your car with a fine tooth-comb prior to an MOT and turn up and be stung for new plates or a failure sheet.

DVLA website has more info, but it looks like you won't get away with your post 73 car having black and white plates anymore.

All the parts, not enough time, not nearly enough garages so selling parts slowly!

OMFG.. does that mean my capri may fail cos the front number plate has CAPRI written where the GB logo goes, and at the bottom instead of the makers name it says 'the car you always promised yourself'...
SCARED!!

you will find more and more mot stations failing cars due to the plates,
mine was advised on the plates last year due to having my web site on the bottom,
they told me to have them changed for this year or it will be an instant failure.

I think the easiest solution is a bit of masking tape over it for the MOT... thats what I did anyhow, and It passed!
