Under my wings.

Post by ocj »

Hi there all,

I read somewhere recently but i'm not sure where it was, that if I can get my hands on the plastic mud shields from under the front wings of a sierra that they should fit the capri.
Is this true or am I just imagining what I want to hear?

Is there any shield out there that would suit? I've just replaced the wings and I don't want them to rot out like the old ones.

thanks

Ocj :P

Hi, I have done this on both my Mk1 Escort and my two Capris. It was Sierra ones I used from the front. You will need to cut them to fit but they are easy to cut with tinsnips. Where the hole is in the top of the shield where the shock goes through, you will need to cut from each side of that hole vertically down. This is to allow the shield to fit either side of the metal uprights on the innerwing. Then it is just a case of profiling the outer lip to the wing of the capri. However as I discovered on my Escort if you end up with a bit pressing hard inside the wing the rubbing effect wears of the paint and then goes rusty. So cut it as to not let it press too hard.
They do fit better in the Capri. I fixed it with two self tapper screws and penny washers. at either side of the innerwing uprights at the bottom and used a stainles nut and bolt at the front of the wing through the lip. Also used the existing fixings at the rear if the wing on the brace.

I got hold of a set of capri ones off ebay a while back, for about £15 inc postage, the next week I saw a set got for £50... bargain

BNTW.. did you know that if you have these fitted... they can hide a multitude of sins, and when the car is MOT'ed the inspector is not allowed to remove them to check behind.. INTERESTING EH? Apparently trhis is the case with any fitted bodykit parts - side skiorts etc.

Oh and apparently also FIESTA MK3 underarch splash shields will fit capri.

Have fun at the scrapsies!!
