Where are my VIN stamps?

Post by en0mpb »

Hi all
I have a 2.8 special and want to chack the VIN plate is correct. One thing I want to do is to find some of the stamps on the chassis and check they're the same as the number on the plate but I don't know where to look and am reluctant to start pulling up the carpets if I don't have to. Anyone know where the most accessible stamps are?

Many thanks

Matt :?

down beside the drivers seat (door side) you should see the carpet is cut, lift the carpet flap up, and your chassis number should be there.

So it is, and my numbers do match. Many thanks. The parts suppliers kept thinking it was a Puma. I presumed this was because Ford used the same letter E to denote both cars but still wanted to check my plate hadn't been changed. Looks fine though.

Cheers
Matt

I'm even luckier - when my 280 colapsed due to the dreaded rust it took me 3 years to find a replacement shell. And I managed to find a 280 shell that had been in store since it was about 3 years old and it didn't have a VIN stamp! Guess they started to forget to bother with the last few cars! Or mine was a replacement shell reshelling a 280 within the original warrenty! Anyway, it'll be great for my 24V!!!
Capri 2.8 (A) Tickford replica in build with 280 interior/wheels and original bodykit.
Capri 280 (E) 24V Supercharged Conversion in progress with nearly new shell.
All the parts, not enough time, not nearly enough garages so selling parts slowly!
