2.8 i Capri Missfires at 2500RPM & above

Post by Ian- C »

Hi
Can Anyone shed some light on this problem ................ the car has covered 120k but is in V reasonable condition engine sounds sweet. When the car was bought and given a "once -over" it was misfiring on idle and having checked the timing it was found to on or about 25 BTDC !!!!!!!.......... I KNOW.......... ! So new plugs and corrected timing , 12 BTDC sorted the misfire out.
Now the car idles lovely but under acceleration, not booted, when it gets above 2500rpm it starts misfiring ????????
Compression test revealed slightly down on one cylinder
I would be eternally grateful if someone could offer any help with getting this graceful beast running smoothly once more :)

a friend of mine had a similar thing on his 2.8,
turned out to be valve seat errosion due to the unleaded fuel,
a slight adjustment on the tappets and the car was fine again,
have you checked the valve clearance????

Delivery problem then :)
