Hi all. I have a 1.6 laser with a 2.0 litre and 32/36 weber conversion. I have got hold of all the EFI kit off a granada and was wondering where you mount the electric pump and what mods are needed if any?
Also, do you just leave the old mechanmical pump in place with lines blanked off?
 Oh and one last thing (promise) will all this fit to the carb head as i know the injection one had pear shaped intakes. Does this matter?
Cheers, Danny :)

You have much to learn!

You need to get hold of a 2.8 injection tank and pump. You could mess about fitting the Sierra pump but don't bother. Grab the fuel lines too if you can.

You also need the injection head. Again, you could spend hours carving up the one you have but get the right one, it's much easier.

The old mechanical fuel pump should be removed allong with the piston type thing down the hole that connected it to the cam which oppereates it.
Have a look at the engine you got the injection system off - it will have a little steel blank plate over the hole - you need it.

Hi, I fitted EFI to my standard pinto head. Well it was actually a stage two head. I did need to change the cam though. Burtons do an injection cam. I also filed about 3mm out of the top of the intake ports in the head. Did not have much to take out as they were already opened up and polished.
I used the original pump and pipes from the Sierra. I have this setup in my Mk1 Escort and as the tank sits upright I did not have to modify it.
The car goes really well considering with around 130bhp. The best bit is starting on a frosty morning and not havng to worry about the choke as it will tick over streight away. I get around 30-35mpg on average. I also use a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold.

There you go - technology beats carb again!

You will need to swap the tank - it's a big flat one on the Capri so if you
just strap the pump on, it will die on roundabouts.
Been there - done thaty - not funny!

hang on a min...if the mech pump is bolted to the engine. Why can't I mount an electric pump at the front of the car?

does someone else want to take this one? - i'm thinking I should never have got involved.

most electric pumps are pushers not pullers,
eg need mounting at a point usually lower or level with the base of the fuel tank as they have a gravity inlet BUT a high pressure outlet and then push the fuel to the front of the car,

Injection cars need a swirl pot in the tank (a sort of reserve tank inside the main tank) to keep the pump constantly fed with fuel when the tank is low on fuel and it's sloshing about, if air gets into the pump it will stall and the injectors will loose pressure, a 2.8i tank incorperates all the bits you need, just fitting an EFi pump to a standard tank will result in you stalling everytime the tank is below 1/3 and you go round a bend.
I Had a swirl pot fitted to my tank as in my particular case there was no injection tank to fit, trust me it cost more that way and was more work :(
