easy way to tell??

is there an easy way to tell if the headgaskets leaking on my 1600 pinto, i just get the feeling its gone but in actual fact ive no idea if it has :roll:

i use what they call a sniffer,
it test the water for contaminations caused by gasses from the cylinders etc getting into the water,
not sure if you can buy them from any motor stores, i used a mates from a garage,

I presume its not smoking, using oil or water or has white/yellow residue on filler cap? Im sure you know these are signs of head gasket failure.....
