Hi there
I was wondering if anyone could help me increase engine performance on a 1600 OHC engine and what sort of cost is involved. I have already done the following:
Changed single carb to a brand new twin weber carb
Four branch manifold leading out to a twin exit exhaust
Unleaded head
K&N Air Filter
Many Thanks

the most beneficial way to further increase power would be,
head work...i.e gas flowing the ports and a fast road cam
also electronic ignition would be a good idea as well...
i take it your keeping the 1.6 engine for insurance reasons or something?
because if i was you, i would slot a 2.0 engine in mate, far better for tuning,
and is pretty much a straight swap

Thanks for that mate.
Unfortunately i have spent a lot of money on the engine so would like to keep it.
If i fitted a fast road cam, would i have to modify or change anything?
If not, then that idea plus the electronic ignition will be going ahead very soon.
Many thanks again for the reply.

if you buy a performance cam kit from someone like Kent cams,
then you could fit that without changing anything else...
I would strongly recommend not going any higher than a mild fast road cam
on the 1600 pinto, as valve train geometry can be a problem with really hairy cams on the smaller pinto
