No power or idle

Post by mfw898y »

Hi all, I'm putting this in the elec area but not sure what the problem is.
The car is playing up yet again. It starts from cold with a slight missfire that disapears when reved. After a couple of mins idleing it gradually slows and cuts out unless reved. Its a 2 litre pinto with 1.6 power when driven and would be lucky if it made 70mph. I have changed the carb with the same results. All the ignition bits are new except the coil. Its a vv carb with all those silly hoses which seem to be connected correctly. I have noticed that if you hold a plug lead next to block, the spark wont jump the gap. When warm it drives fine but seriously under powered and will not idle at all. I'm sure its something to do with ignition. I've had timing lamp on and its timed up fine wih vacuum advance working. Any ideas?

Possibly. Its great being able to type valve clearances into the search but if you dont know what you are looking for in the first place..............
Tried searching "idle" "power" etc which is what promted me to check clearances. God bless this site!!!! 8)
