I bought a 1980 3.0 sport capri and after driving her less than 200 miles in the first five days she gave up and now she's not playing.

this essex v6 starts but shorly afterwards looses her spark and just dies out, the mechanic attempting to fix it is at a loss to why,
shes had new plugs, h t leads, points, condenser, rotor arm, balist resister and wire, coil and so on.... I have just bought a new lumenition system and hope to fit this to see is that makes a difference???

when the coil lead is off she runs fine so its not a fuel or carb problem. there apears to be some resistance from some where because when its on it just looses its spark

I would welcome and advice or assistance from anyone.
would be willing to pay someone to correct this issue. Based in Glasgow

As its killing me not being able to drive her.

spark

sorry, what I actually mean is that when the coil lead is pulled back about a 1/4 of an inch from the distibutor cap it makes the spark jump and the car will run and idle fine.
any ideas?

have you changed the cap too?

when it looses spark can you get a test meter on the + of the coil to see if its got power as it dies?
if it does then it lies within the ignition, if it has no power at the + of coil then its ignition switch possibly? the resistor in the loom, or a possible break in the wire,
