Rear light cluster

Post by Insane Eddie »

Hi there,

I would just like to put a quick question before your collective expertise!!
I am planning to swap my 2.8i?s rear light clusters for those off a mk2 Capri as I think they look better (feel free to disagree) the problem I am having is that the mk2 doesn?t have a integral rear fog light in them and has separate brakes/warning light (the one that comes on with the headlights I?m having a mental block as to it?s name). I can sort out the wiring for separate bulbs but the problem I?m having is, is it legal to have no rear fog lights? Or will I need to find somewhere to put a separate fog? Has anyone ever done this before?
Any help would be fantastic.

Hi, there is a cut off date for having fog lamps. I think it is before 1975 which does not help you but check with your local mot station for the date. My Mk1 Escort does not have fog lamps and does not need to have them legally. Ford did make a foglamp kit to fit to the Mk2 Escort and Mk1 Fiesta which was a separate unit. You may need to see if you can find one of these kits on E-bay, they come with all you need to fit to your car.

Thanx Dude,

I was only thinking this because my brothers mk5 escort didnt have rear fogs and he always had a MOT? I didnt know if it was like spot lights which have to work if you've got them but doesnt require them.
