How much power can a 3L Atlas handle?

Just wondering what kind of power and torque a narrow 3L atlas axle with quaife ATB LSD could take?
See a few people run them behind V8's in classicford. I've got a 5.0L V8 going in mine and wondering how long it is likely to last? (3.22 ratio)
Most serious V8 swaps go direct for a 9 inch but thats a lot of weight to cart around if it's not required. Has anyone broken an atlas axle?
