I have a 2.8is on a c plate and when it's running in neutral I can hear a distant whining, which isn't particularly loud at all, but I know it's there. When i press the clutch pedal down fully, the noise disappears. The gearbox is slightly clunky to engage and upon further investigation it appears to be leaking (but exactly from where is a mystery at the moment). Can you please advise what oil I should put in the gearbox. It's the original 5 speed that done 114,000 miles. Ta Burt

I have just read this months cci mag and there is a small article saying, that in a 2.8 5speed type 9 box you should use automatic transmission fluid. I would be interested to know if it woks as mine sounds the same as yours.
