What atlas axle LSD have I got.

Hi all, about 10 years ago I bought an axle off a mk3 Gartrac Escort. It has a LSD unit fitted. I also have an axle from a 2.8i special Capri.
Now on the Capri axle when you turn one wheel in one direction the other turns in the same direction as you would expect.
However on my Gartrac axle the oposite wheel turns the opposite way as it would on a standard axle.
There is definatley an LSD in there as I took off the rear cover to check when I bought the axle. The diff does lock but only when under power.
Is there a motorsport diff fitted in this axle?

Can you get a picture of the diff itself? As far as i know any lsd won't let the wheels turn in opposite directions unless the atb gear type ones are like this under light loads. Try locking one halfshaft so it can't turn and turn the other forwards and see what happens.

Another thing, the escort, was it a real one or home built jobbie? I know of a couple of "gartrac" escorts using standard capri (lsd or non lsd) atlas axles as they work out at roughly the right length so it could be a standard axle. A picture of the diff will clear this up.

Hi, thanks for the reply. The Escort was an original Gartrac car.
There are a couple of ATB diffs on E-Bay at the mo and after reading the description it sounds like it is one of these units I have.

Hi, might not be an ATB, but could be a Detroit Locker type diff. These have been popular with muscle car guys for years, but have more recently found a new lease of life in drift cars. Ran into a guy at a track day with one fitted to his skyline. Didn`t make it onto the circuit cos he lost it on a roundabout on the way there.....
