Capir 2.8i Coolant/Antifreeze

Post by Kelson »

Looking for a concensus. Did not think it would be so difficult to decide the correct antifreeze to use. I have owned my Capri 2.8i from new and it came with red/pink Ford Super Plus antifreeze. According to the Ford Workshop manual (2.8 supplement), the specification should be SSM-97B 9103-A (pink). The section in the manuals for the rest of the Capri range uses a different recommendation (Ford Antifreeze Plus - SSM-97B 9101-A).

Everything I seem to read on modern coolants suggests they are not suitable for old cars (because of OAT/POAT content) and most suggest an IAT(2 year green/blue) solution is used. I am going to drain and flush the system, but am wondering what others are using in the 2.8i engine (or other Cologne versions - 2.9/4.0).
