That's great, thanks.

The odd thing is on the previous MOT they said it was correct and on this one they wanted it changed over. Also, the wire colours don't match through now (its one colour then another colour) as I have had to swap the contacts around.

If it passes I'm happy.

Thanks again.

Headlights MOT Failure

Hi, Haven't posted for a while but wondered if anyone could help me out... I have a mk3 2.8i, which has just failed its MOT. Of all things, it was down to the headlights being wired incorrectly. Any chance anyone can help, I have changed the wiring to the following (advised by the garage) but not su...

Metering unit is fine, sealed with free movement on the arm...

The car is garaged until the weather gets nice again, so haven't posted about it in a while...

Thanks for all your support.

I'm pretty sure the plugs are bosch and the leads are definately new as are the plugs. We came to the same conclusion about the unburnt fuel.... but as to why we are still to determine. For some reason the problem I have now is I've ran out of fuel so the tank will need topping up... Could have inad...

Did a compression test last night.... I'm getting around 170psi (12bar) on all cylinders. Took the dizzy cap off again and cleaned that up and checked all the ht leads (which have been replaced recently). Changed the fuel filter as it needed doing and a couple of fuel lines to move the filters mount...

Thanks,

Injectors have a good spray, valve clearances have been checked, adjusted, checked and checked again...

I'm using a leaded additive which protects the valve seatings from recess.

When I get round to it, it'll be a compression test.

Thanks again all for your suggestions.

I'm not that silly... I've been working on the body since. Thank you for the concern tho.

I'll probably be looking to take it into a garage. After having re-built the car and engine from the nuts up I'm starting to lose patience...

Not yet... I think one of the piston rings is shot as I'm only getting about 40degrees out of that exhaust port.

I can't use the tester I've got because of the angle of the engine so I'll need to borrow a friends.

I'll let you all know how it goes when I've tested. Thanks.

Mis-fire... Valves? Flames!!

Hi all, Hope you can all help again, as you all seem to have been very helpful in the past... I have an '81 2.8i cologne... As your looking along the engine the n/s / right side seems to be firing fine (cylinders 4, 5, & 6). However there is a mis fire along the left side (cylinders 1, 2, & 3) and e...

I have 2, however one doesn't work and the other was just claimed by a friend for his kit car... sorry.

I will keep a look out. What about Capri club? They can normally get hold of anything they don't hold in stock.

Thanks for your reply. I've found the solution. As it turns out there is corrosion within the swirl pot in the tank blocking the return and partially blocking the feed giving low pressure and blowing the seal on the MFI unit when the pressure builds up due to no return in the tank... Tank is now rep...

Hi, if you say its running for about 10 secs that'll most likely be running on the cold start valve.

Which means you may have a fuel delivery prob to the injectors or a return prob.

Let us know if its sorted and how etc. Cheers.

I remember someone mention it to me in the past. Thanks for the correction, something to check on mine aswell. Maybe there is a pressure problem at that point. If you have any luck let me know as I think we are working to the same solution on this one as I've got the same prob. Did you have gushing ...

Its adjustable by an allen key fitting allowing the metering plate to lift and drop by a greater amount thus more fuel to the injectors under load. I think the washers effectively do the same thing.

Yes, definately running... however it is struggling because of the pressure backed upto it. Makes an unhealthy noise it may need replacing even tho it was new when we re-built the engine... hoping its ok tho.
