There is a place in Newcastle upon tyne called advanced automotive systems. They make custom fit zorsts to your requirements in what ever material you fancy, can be pricy though. I called in with my 2.8 which has a stainless, standard bore, powerflow and the gaffer said that they are a load of pap.I...

Spark plug condition
Thats why i use this forum,'cause i dont know a great deal about engines and i have to ask all you guy's for advice. I just thought that if the engine turns out not to be as bad as expected, putting hotter plugs in might help to make them last longer without fouling up. As it happens only one out of...

Spark plug condition
Thanks for the reply. I have another post in the engine section which is related to this and the reply says the same thing "rings". I plan to do a compression test to see if it shows up how bad the problem is.
Would using a hotter plug help to burn some of the oilly deposits off the electode?

Oil filler cap smoke
Thanks for replying, checked my plugs last weekend and they were oilly too, so it seems all the symptoms point to piston rings. I have already spoken to a friend/mechanic about changing the rings, but i might do a compression test first to see how bad they are.Is it noticable the way the car drives ...

Spark plug condition
I have just taken all my spark plugs out (2.8i) to check and give them a clean, and three were black and oily and three were ok. One on one side and two on the other. I have had the mixture set up at a garage on Friday and after cleaning the plugs the car runs better. I was wondering what is causing...

Oil what's your opinion
On a standard 2.8 with 84k on the clock where do you think the oil pressure guage should be showing, when the engine is up to temp using 20/50 . At tick over mine is about one line up from the bottom and below half way with a few revs on the engine. Do we only worry about oil pressure because we hav...

It really pee'd me off. I had it in and out 3 times before i managed to fix it poperly. Also be careful with the resist...

I have just read this months cci mag and there is a small article saying, that in a 2.8 5speed type 9 box you should use automatic transmission fluid. I would be interested to know if it woks as mine sounds the same as yours.
